Light at the end of the tunnel for the youth

If you are young and unemployed, then you are almost guaranteed a job with this new programme launched by Mayor Tau.

Lourenco Robinson from Florida is excited about the youth programme that was launched by Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Parks Tau.

Mayor Tau launched the programme, Vulindlel’ eJozi Programme, meaning “open the way in Johannesburg” which will only provide jobs for the unemployed youth.

“I will definitely register for the programme because I am looking forward to studying towards my goal which is to be a chef,” Robinson said.

This initiative was introduced to lower the unemployment rate in the country.

Spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg, Nthatisi Modingoane said, “the programme is open to everyone between the ages of 18 and 34 years.” He added that different genders and races are welcome.

Mayor Tau revealed in a press statement about R150 million had been budgeted for the programme in the 2015-2016 financial year.

According to a press statement, the initiative by Mayor Tau stems from, firstly, it being youth month and secondly, to highlight the importance of the youth to the city’s economy and future.

Young people will be able to apply for learnerships, through the Vulindlel’ eJozi programme and they will be chosen based on their capabilities, a press statement said.

All interested youth can register online at https://vulindleljozi.mobi from 16 June.
