All the single ladies put your hands up

If you are single and you know it clap your hands because this one is for you.

It is National Old Maids day for all women who have never married and who does not have dependants.

This day was introduced after World War Two. Many soldiers returned from war to reunite with their wives and children. The unmarried single women were regarded unlucky as they never had a soldier return to them.

Back in the day, if you had a husband and you had children, you were regarded as a happy woman.

If you were 25 years old and above and you lived in the 20th century, you would be referred to as an “old maid.” That is a derogatory term for an older woman who does not have children and who is not married.

So bake a tart, paint your nails or watch an 80s movie. After all, this is your day.
