Mbali, new pageant princess

Mbali Msimang has only been participating in beauty pageants for six months.

It has not even been a year since Mbali Msimang stepped onto the runway and she is already collecting crowns.

The seven-year-old from Witpoortjie recently won the Miss Prime South Africa held in Pretoria.

Last month she won the Miss Autumn Blossom and Ms Mad Rage competitions.

Mbali has also been chosen to be one of the finalists in the Mini-Miss South Africa pageant which will take place later this year.

The Grade two pupil from Laerskool Roodebeek said she loves being on stage and feeling beautiful.

“When I compete, I get to wear beautiful clothes and be on stage. Winning crowns is my favourite part of competing,” said Mbali.

Her mother Shantelle said she is proud of her daughter and her amazing achievements.

“She is so young yet she has achieved so much, it shows she is truly blessed. It is exciting to see her on stage performing because she it makes her happy,” she said.

Mbali, who takes modelling lessons from HMC Modelling Academy in Krugersdorp, said her role model is Dr Laverne Asante, a former beauty queen model and currently a medical doctor at the Gauteng Department of Health.

“I want to be a doctor and save lives just like Dr Laverne. Not only is she a doctor but a model too and that is what I want for myself,” she said.

Mbali will now be setting her sights Miss South Africa Youth competition that will be held on 16 June in Pretoria.
