47 arrested last Friday

Roodepoort Police clamped down on crime ahead of last weekend, sending 35 suspects to court on Monday (1 June).

Thirty-five suspects appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday 1 June after being arrested ahead of the weekend for various crimes.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo confirmed that 47 suspects were arrested on Friday 26 May for various petty and serious crimes.

“They’re accused of, amongst other charges, assaulting, assaulting with the intent of grievous bodily harm, possessing stolen goods, dealing in dagga, possessing drugs and shoplifting,” she said.

Ten of those arrested were illegal immigrants.

All of the suspects were charged and detained at the Roodepoort police station. The remaining suspects are expected to make a court appearance this week.
