Lets get physical

WELTEVREDEN PARK — Panorama pupils get active for the R1 million prize with SuperSport and Active Education.

Grade 4 pupils at Panorama Primary School, Weltevreden Park, got active on 1 June for the Let’s Get Physical Challenge.

The national challenge runs from April to November, where Active Education in partnership with SuperSport designed an obstacle course for physical education.

“This is to improve [the] physical and mental muscles of the pupils. It runs nationally for every school’s Grade 4 class. The obstacle course consists of five exercises that are found in any current physical curriculum,” said Tshepo Tshabalala.

The objective of the challenge is to see how many pupils can go through the obstacle course in the allocated time frame of 45 minutes.

The exercises consist of:

• Slalom and dribble through agility

• Catch and throw with a soccer ball

• Upper body strength exercise

• Agility drills

• Mini hurdles for speed and agility training

Grade 4 educator, Lezl Moolman said that the course was fun for the pupils, and they look forward to the next round.

“We needed 60 pupils to compete and we had 64. That put us through to the next round where we will compete with another school. For the next round, we need to have 90 pupils in the challenge to go on further.”

The school that achieves the highest number of pupils through the course in the allocated time, will go on to represent their province in the final, in November. The ultimate winning school will receive a multipurpose sports court worth R1.2 million sponsored by the Sports Trust.
