RUIMSIG — Ice hockey players raise money for motor neuron disease.

Ross Theron, a Grade 5 pupil at Maragon Private Schools, plays ice hockey for the Northgate Grizzlies and the team recently did something very special.

On 24 May, the Northgate Grizzlies played in a tournament against the Forest Rats at Forest Hill to raise funds for motor neuron disease.

Former Springbok legend, Joost van der Westhuizen and his family were in attendance for the game.

Van der Westhuizen’s son, Jordan, plays in the same team as Theron.

They all played their hearts out toward a good cause and raise awareness for ice hockey as a sport.

The Grizzlies clinched a 2–0 victory over the Forest Rats and ultimately won the tournament with an accumulative score of 3–2.

Ross was named Man of the Match for the entire tournament– an impressive feat considering the players were from the ages of six to 46.

The young sportsman is now gearing up for his first D12 hockey match (district/provincial hockey) on 30 and 31 May as the youngest player on the team.
