Update: City Parks say why tree was pruned

City Parks thank residents for being green minded.

The pepper tree in Stingligh Street had to be pruned, says Johannesburg City Parks and Zoos (JPCZ).

Spokesperson Jenney Moodly explained:

“A site inspection was conducted and trees found to be interfering with pedestrian access and obstructing overhead lighting were earmarked to be pruned on all streets in the vicinity of Stiglingh Street. The lopping of branches that hamper pedestrian access have subsequently commenced,” she said

“There was however, a request by a resident to JCPZ to refrain from any further pruning of a tree adjacent to her home. This tree needs to be pruned on the other side as well, to contain the possibility of it being uprooted due to its current proportions.

“It is extremely admirable of residents who are protective of the city’s tree canopy, unfortunately in this instance it does need to be pruned sufficiently back to safeguard pedestrians and to ensure the longevity of the tree,” Moodley concluded.
