Roan and Sasha care

The school agreed to become a drop-off point for the blankets and community members are encouraged to donate blankets.

Mr Junior Teen South Africa 2015 Roan Gonsalves and Mr Junior South Africa 2015 Sasha Robertson have joined forces to keep the less fortunate warm during this winter.

Roan and Sasha addressed pupils at Hoërskool Florida during their assembly on Monday morning, telling them about their charity, Africa Food for Thought.

They made a plea for pupils to donate blankets to the charity.

Africa Food for Thought is a non-profit organisation, run by volunteers, focused on equipping and supplying school feeding programmes.

They are involved in a number of community projects, empowerment projects, shelters and half-way houses.

Their aim is to help those in need – the vulnerable and marginalised. Their vision is to feed people in the name of Christ, in order to bring hope to the hopeless.

They currently have 13 school feeding projects, seven crèches and five community feeding schemes. In total they feed over 12 000 children.

Whilst they equip and supply the projects, it is the parents and community volunteers who run the project, do the cooking and serving.

In this way, they encourage schools and communities to own the project.

“All we want is to help those less fortunate and the main thing the charity needs right now is blankets. The community can help make a difference by donating blankets to the charity. If we don’t help, who will?” said Roan.
