Bad luck for Ten10 runner

Runner hope to run again tommorrow.

One of the runners, Roodekrans resident Michelle Maree, who are attempting to run 10 ultra-marathons in a row in aid of animals, had to quit yesterday due to sunstroke.

Maree, who is running the Ten10 Challenge with its founder Hazel Moller, underestimated the hot Free State sun, and had to temporarily disband her attempt between Reitz and Clarens. Maree would have run her fifth 90km in a row today.

The Record spoke to her via Whatsapp.

“I think my running shoes have melted,” she said. “Yesterday I was very emotional and did not even want to speak to anyone. It felt like I failed Ten10 and the animals,” said Maree. She also said she had to be put on a drip.

“Hazel is now on day five and although she is taking strain, she is still going strong. She has a tough skin which helps in this heat.

“I hope to run again tomorrow,” she concluded and promised to keep our readers updated.
