GALLERY: A generous gift for baby Jackson

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Panorama Primary school pupils donated a whopping R15 000 for baby Jackson who suffers from spastic dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

Pupils of Panorama Primary School officially handed over R15 000 for Jackson da Silva (1) who suffers from spastic dystonic quadriplegic cerebral palsy on 21 May.

One of the teachers, Leigh Todd, who was responsible for fundraising, and a family friend said the pupils raised the money in just eight days.

Each class took a tin to fill up, and instantly started donating money.

Jackson’s mother, Denise da Silva was moved by the pupils’ contributions. Her story is one of a perfect miracle.

“I feel overwhelmed, the generosity of these children at such a young age is very precious,” said the visibly touched Da Silva.

“I was not expecting such an amount – this actually proves that one rand from different people can actually make a difference.”

Da Silva said the money will go toward her son’s treatment.

Natalie Maimane was also available to hand over the cheque.

Maimane stated that she knows about Da Silva and her husband’s journey and their struggles to have a baby.

“They are wonderful people and they are in our own community. I also know that they are the kind of people who would actually give back to the community. That is very precious to me. They love this country and they love the people of this nation and they love their little boy,” said Maimane.

Todd also said, Jackson’s family is very close to her heart. “I was so touched that some of these children were even selflessly putting in their monthly pocket money in, money the tooth fairy had left them.

“I can’t believe how emotionally attached the children have been to Jackson, and it just shows how willing children are to help and how kind hearted they are,” concluded Todd.
