Florida Hills drug house: House broken into after bust

Security company was key in the initial discovery, responded to a house breaking incident afterwards.

This morning (21 May) a man from a neighbouring property phoned his security company’s control room to report a former green house was broken into.

The house on Kenya Road was discovered to be a dagga green house and raided by the Florida Police earlier this week. Apcan Risk Management control room manager Herman Coetzee said they received the phone call around 6.15am.

“The Florida Police were also called to the scene this morning,” Coetzee said.

“We suspect friends or colleagues of the suspect broke in, perhaps to try and salvage some of the plants,” he said.

They broke glass panes of the back door to gain access to the house. It appears nothing was taken from the property.

The company also played a crucial role in the drug bust this week. This Coetzee proved when he provided the Record with an audio clip of Andries Estherhuizen from the control room logging the initial call to the police station, informing them “there is a drug dealer” at the property concerned.

According to Coetzee’s understanding of how events unfolded, a man, 31 and woman, 26, were fighting and assaulting one another on the sidewalk in front of the property when patroller Wimpie Diesel noticed the commotion.

“He spoke to them when the woman allegedly told him that there are drugs in the house, which is when he logged a call to the control room and Estherhuizen contacted the police,” Coetzee said.
