Axe murderer sentenced to 18 years

ROODEPOORT – Investigating officer WO Michael Erasmus says he is happy with the outcome.

On 23 July 2014 Mario Allers, known as the axe-murderer, allegedly stabbed his wife (Carol Allers) to death in their Randpark Ridge house in Sysie Road.

He was previously sentenced to serve 15 years on three counts of murder after he had killed his mother, grandmother and best friend with an axe in 1999.

Allers stabbed Carol three times in her back and once in the arm in the early morning hours of 23 July.

Two days later, on 25 July, he appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court and the case was postponed numerous times until Magistrate Delize Smit decided to transfer the matter to the South Gauteng High Court and according to investigating officer Warrant Officer Michael Erasmus, he pleaded guilty to murder in the High Court on 11 May.

“Allers was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment with the instruction that the accused shall not be placed on parole for a period of 12 years.”

Erasmus concluded and said, “I’m glad about the verdict and felt it was fair.”
