Councillor hits a bump with City Power

Mann said it is this kind of incompetence and bungling bureaucracy that slows down service delivery.

Councillor Carl Mann’s effort to solve the electricity theft and illegal connections problems in Groblerspark has once again been thwarted by the no-show of City Power officials.

Mann has launched a project to move a substation into the transit camp and a separate one for the current paying residents higher up in the suburbs where it will not be subjected to theft and illegal connections.

This morning he had to once again meet with City Power, on their invitation, and the community to plan the next leg of the project but neither City Power nor the community members pitched up.

This according to Mann is the third time he is left high and dry.

“The previous two times they just did not pitch or phoned me half an hour before the meeting to cancel. When I phoned one of the representatives just now he said he is still on leave. Why they then invited me last Thursday is a mystery to me,” said a clearly unhappy Mann.

“The fact the community and community liaison officer did not show up means they were never informed,” he continued.

The representatives in question could not be reached for comment.
