Bribe refused after R90k drug bust in Quellerina

Three suspects are to appear in court following dealings, the discovery of drugs worth R90 000 and attempted bribery in Glenlea Avenue.

The Johannesburg Flying Squad, of which some members were doing patrols on Gordon Road last Thursday (14 May), responded to information received from a resident.

Florida Police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomela in a press statement said the resident alleged suspects were dealing drugs from an address on Glenlea Avenue. Members of the West Rand K9 Dog Unit were contacted for backup.

“The police stopped the driver of a BMW which was reversing in a driveway upon their arrival,” Dikolomela said.

After requesting to conduct a search they discovered a small transparent plastic bag containing a substance suspected to be methcathinone (street name ‘cat’) hidden in his underwear.

With the assistance of sniffing dogs, more suspected methcathinone to the street value of R90 000 were discovered where it was hidden under flowers in the yard. Subsequently both men were arrested, one for dealing drugs and the other for being in possession thereof.

A third suspect was arrested for bribery after he arrived at the scene.

“He offered cash to the police, asking them to drop the case,” Dikolomela said.

All three men, aged between 24 and 40, will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court this week.
