Young talent gunning for Eisteddfod grand prize

They will present a wide variety of music, dance and drama items.

26 young artists and groups will have the chance to amaze the audience this weekend in the final round of the 12th National Eisteddfod Academy Young Performer Awards Competition.

The finalists have a chance of winning a seven week course, worth R6 300, to study at Brumilda Acting Academy Agency for the Best Performer in Speech and Drama.

The academy is run by multi-award winning actress Brumilda van Rensburg.

R50 000 prize money and the gold, silver and bronze medals will be the grand prizes at stake.

This year’s panel of adjudicators will comprise of well-known personalities such as Des and Dawn Lindberg, Je-Ani Swiegelaar, Thabiso Lekuba and Ockie Vermeulen.

The NEA, a non-profit organisation for youth development in music, dance, drama and visual arts, has been presenting this competition for top achievers since 2004.

“This competition provides a high-level platform where young artists can compete and grow in preparation for the competitive, challenging and very difficult professional stages of the world,” said NEA CEO Dr Francois van den Berg

The event will be presented at the Roodepoort Theatre, Roodepoort on 16 May at 7pm.
