Fight crime: CPF calls Roodepoort to action

More eyes and ears are needed at grassroots levels.

The Roodepoort Community Policing Forum (CPF) is getting serious about turning crime upside down.

“As it is publically known, the Police service does not have enough resources to be visible all across Roodepoort; we need volunteers to be the eyes and ears on grass roots level,” media liaison Margaret Roodt in a press statement said.

Roodt last week said they urge those that are serious about making a difference in their communities to attend a future workshop at Hoërskool Roodepoort.

“The workshop is open to all residents served by the Roodepoort Police,” Roodt said.

“We want to turn our crime situation around but it cannot be done unless every resident takes responsibility and takes part in key crime prevention activities.”

On Saturday 30 May between 9am and 1pm, the CPF will have key speakers sharing their views and plans of action with the community in attendance.

“We ask residents to utilise their specific skills by volunteering to become part of crime sub forums, which will be discussed in depth during the workshop.”

Keynote speakers will include Colonel Gerrie van Rooyen from the Roodepoort Police, Reverend Fanie le Roux, Roodepoort CPF chairman Leon Vieira, Human Rights Commissioner Dr Danny Titus as well as crime sector representatives.
