Welridge celebrates Ascension Day

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Pupils and teachers release doves to mark the holy day of Ascension.

Pupils at Welridge Academy held their annual Ascension Day ceremony on 14 May in Weltevreden Park.

Although the day is not a public holiday, Ian Humby, who organised the celebration said this was to remind the pupils of the importance of the day.

“We read a special message from the bible about when Jesus Christ went back to heaven. We released some birds in the sky to mark the day that Christ ascended,” Humby said.

Ascension day is a Christian holiday that is celebrated 40 days after Easter to commemorate Jesus’ bodily ascension to heaven.
