Centre aims to help children with disabilities

ROODEPOORT – Palesa Mofokeng aims to use her knowledge to better the lives of children with disabilities.

Palesa Mofokeng is a woman on a mission to help out children with disabilities.

Mofokeng’s mentor and founder of Pathways in Roodepoort, Julie Botha explained that she is ready to do more for children with disabilities.

“Palesa has decided to start her own organisation called the Queen Butterfly Foundation.”

According to Botha, Mofokeng started working at Pathways in 2004 as an assistant but she has had enough experience with children who battle with disabilities and various physical challenges that she can now be seen as an expert in the field.

Botha added and said that people who wish to support Pathways Roodepoort can click on the following link to go and join their Facebook group.

“My daughter, Crystal Raine, was the first child Palesa worked with and as she explains, Crystal remains a constant inspiration to her wanting to serve and help other children like my daughter.”

She continued and said that about two years ago, Mofokeng told her about her dream to open her own centre for children with disabilities. Botha added, “It’s time for a new chapter because she (Mofokeng) is an excellent assessor of children and she has everything necessary to make this work.”

Mofokeng said, “I have a passion for children and running my own centre will assist me to help these children as I have dedicated my life to making the difficult journey of a child with special needs a little easier.”

Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht was excited about the foundation that will be opening in his ward.

“The opening of the Queen Butterfly Foundation is a very exciting prospect for our community and I am determined to help wherever I can and I will render my own set of expertise through becoming a member on the committee.”

He explained that he hopes that the rest of the community will rally behind Mofokeng and support this important initiative.

“If anyone wants to help out by volunteering or assist with sponsorships they can give me a call,” concluded Mofokeng.
