Spring Road a dangerous one

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Spring Road is a danger waiting to happen, as motorists have to drive onto oncoming traffic to avoid potholes.

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin feels as though he is busy fighting a losing battle against the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) as roads are deteriorating rapidly in his ward.

“One such road is Spring Road which has been in a shocking state for the last three to four months,” said councillor Tonkin.

Tonkin added that the road runs across the Klein Jukskei River and the floods during the rainy season also speeds up the deterioration of the road’s surface.

He said, “The road is now so bad that the left side of it is so full of holes that one has to drive into the right hand side of the road onto oncoming traffic in order to avoid the potholes.”

Community Liaison Officer Jan von der Heyde explained that they have made numerous calls to the Roads Agency about this road but have heard nothing back. “It’s the duty of JRA to repair these roads as motorists have to drive on them every single day. Spring Road is also a busy road in the suburb especially in the mornings.”

Tonkin says it feels that the entity has forgotten about his Ward’s roads.

No comment was forthcoming from JRA at time of going to print.
