The Gateway school dog walk

RUIMSIG – Pets and people came in droves to support the worthy cause hosted at The Gateway School.

Parents, pupils and pups descended on The Gateway School in Ruimsig to celebrate an enjoyable fundraising event for the school and Husky Heaven Rescue  on 9 May.

Guests were entertained to a range of activities such as dog walks, a dog show, great food stalls and upbeat music.

The Gateway School hosted the fun day to raise awareness for the work they are doing at the school. All of the funds will go towards upgrading the facility for the pupils as well as assistance and support projects such as walkers and computer attachments.

As a public school, Gateway educates 321 children with a wide range of disabilities from ages between three and 18.

Dogs and their owners were able to enjoy a delightful day of walking and various fun activities to also raise funds and awareness for the Husky Heaven Rescue.

“We hosted Husky Heaven Rescue so our pupils learn that they can give back to the community around them,” said PA Margaret Grobbelaar.

Husky Heaven Rescue responds to the rescue and re-homing of huskies and other Nordic breeds. Each person was ask to kindly donate a tin of dog food for the rescue home.

“The Parent Involvement Group (Pigs) helped make this day a real success. They are always involved in creating fun events for the pupils at our school,” said principal Maria Kempen.

“We would like to highlight that this is first and foremost a fun day for our pupils. It is really great to see all of the dogs and their owners walking as well as parents and pupils of our school enjoying the activities.”
