Police remains mum on double murder case

"My husband didn't die for nothing," said wife Cindy de Vries.

The police have been keeping mum for nearly two months since Hennie de Vries, 34, was murdered in cold blood.

Further information on two separate murder cases that were opened has not been made available to his wife or the community. For that matter, it has not been available to the Record despite numerous attempts to follow up.

Hennie was shot and killed on 17 March after he had allegedly stopped to help another man that was shot and whose vehicle was aflame on the N1 highway near the Maraisburg off-ramp. The other man was identified as Sam Moloto, 58, an ex-policeman.

Recently the Record was sent from pillar to post to get answers from the police. Questions that have plagued his wife Cindy and the general public, like whether they have had any leads, identified suspects or made arrests have gone unanswered.

The Record spoke to a Constable Goodall, apparently with Langlaagte Police, who said the case was transferred to their provincial investigation unit. He advised to contact Captain Masilela who is apparently heading that unit – he was unavailable for comment.

Provincial spokesperson Katlego Mogale recommended speaking to provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makubela and after a few phone calls, Makubela merely referred the Record to a “Dlamini” (no rank or explanation).

In the meantime Cindy and her family have felt the need to hire a private investigator to attempt to solve the case.

As of 1.52 pm on Tuesday 12 May, no further details have been made available.

The Record has taken steps to report the situation and gain insight through contact with the head of Police media communication, Colonel Vishnu Naidoo.
