Roodies athlete still in critical condition.

She suffered numerous injuries including a broken pelvis. Hayley was participating in the Colgate Road Race.

Roodepoort Athletics Club runner Hayley Ryan who was mowed down by an alleged drunk driver in Boksburg is still in hospital.

The Discovery resident had to be airlifted to Union hospital when the vehicle tried to overtake another and drove straight into Hayley.

“She is doing much better now and she will undergo a skin graft operation this week. Her whole body suffered injuries but the pain is manageable with medication,” said Hayley’s brother Andre Ally.

He added that Hayley won’t be transferred to a hospital in Roodepoort because the risk of infection is too high.

“All the doctors and surgeons are attending to her in Alberton so we won’t be moving her. We are not sure how long it will take for her to recover because she will have to undergo rehabilitation as a broken pelvis is a tough injury,” he said.

Hayley joined the Roodepoort Athletics Club last year and qualified to compete in the Comrades Marathon later this month.

Her club teammates are planning to run on her behalf.

“We want to do something special for her so we are planning on wearing something that bears her name and to celebrate that she is alive after such a horrific incident,” said club chairperson Charlie Herselman.
