Fined twice for same offence

ROODEPOORT – Resident Diana Edwards is worried about a two-year-old fine that keeps on showing up as unpaid.

Resident Diana Edwards complained about traffic fines that she received although she never drove the vehicle.

Edwards explained that in September 2013 one of her drivers used a company’s rental vehicle for work and the rental company required a credit card for the transaction.

“Nearly two years later comes a fine for R500 (our driver may have been speeding) to my home address and in my name? Anyway, we paid the fine.”

She continued and said about a week ago she received a second fine for R200 for the same reference for the same date, time and speed.

“We tried everything but we could not get the fine cleared,” added a frustrated Edwards.

Metro Police Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said, “Edwards can apply at the Metro Police for the fine to be cancelled. The second fine could have been issued in error as she says she has already paid the fine.”
