Elektra lives to bark another day

The Pitbull Electra that was found by new animal rescue centre The 9th Day has made remarkable recovery.

She was found lying outside a house in Fleurhof for two days with nothing to eat or drink.

Charmaine Booysen who started the animal rescue centre received a call about the dog from a concerned resident and she immediately went out to rescue it.

“We saw the dog lying there not moving at all and we honestly thought she was dead. As we approached, she didn’t even attempt to stand up although she did try to lift her head and wag her tail. From what I saw, she was a young Pitbull that was used for breeding,” said Charmaine.

Electra was rushed off to Helderkruin animal clinic where numerous tests were conducted.

“She was given a clean bill of health by the vet although she has a non-contagious skin condition.

After just three days at the animal clinic, Electra made a speedy recovery.

“This girl felt the love from all over the country. The phenomenal transformation that took place over a matter of days can only be explained as blessings and love in abundance. I am forever grateful for the astronomical support we received,” said Charmaine.

Charmaine, who established The 9th Day animal rescue centre late last year, has worked with the Roodepoort SPCA.

“I started my animal welfare days at the Roodepoort SPCA by donating goods and then shortly after I joined the committee and became chairperson. I currently make use of kennels just outside Krugersdorp and at this point in time I’m running it on my own, with a few loyal supporters,” she said.

Electra has been moved to a rehabilitation centre in Alberton where Charmaine expects her to make a full recovery.
