Pothole no more

HONEYDEW – The jury is out. The JRA's Find and Fix App really works.

It takes 22 days to find, assess and fix a pothole with the Johannesburg Roads Agency’s (JRA) Find and Fix App. The app is now one-year-old and has proven to be a success

A pothole on Braam and Blueberry streets, Honeydew, was logged on the app on 7 April. Despite the strike that has been affecting the JRA, the pothole is now fixed.

Active users were sent notifications on their logged issues saying, “Due to strike action within the JRA, escalating to sabotage, violence and intimidation of staff and contractors, our ability to attend to all service requests has been hindered… we are working on resolving this issue as a matter of urgency.”

Concerns over the waiting period have been raised. However, one must take into account that the potholes have been there for at least three months. JRA spokesperson Bertha Peter-Scheepers said, “A new version of the app will soon be released to field agents and contractors tasked with attending to issues – helping them navigate to issues, capture resolution details on site; track team performances, and demonstrate closed issues with photo confirmation.”

The app is designed to allow residents to take a photo of their road-related issue, whether it is a pothole, malfunctioning traffic light or even an uncovered manhole, for attendance.
