Graphic photos: Claw rescues chained dog

The cross-breed dog that was found with a three centimetre chain embedded into its neck is recovering well.

The dog was found by Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw) at a home in Braamfischerville last week after it was reported.

The dog, estimated to be three years old was in pain and refused to be touched.

The chain had to be surgically removed.

“We had to nethetise the dog and surgically remove the chain and clean the wound. It is on painkillers and antibiotics medication and is recovering well. It will take between three to four weeks for the dog to fully recover,” said Claw veterinarian Saskia Karius.

Claw will conduct investigations into the home the dog was found.
