GALLERY: Still going strong at 100

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Resident Alice Mahon recently celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.

Friends and members of the Mahon family recently celebrated the 100th birthday of Alice Mohan at the St. Michael’s Retirement Village. A special event was held at the village’s social centre, where Mahon’s close friends and family from all over South Africa and abroad gathered to wish her the very best of health and prosperity.

Alice Mahon (née Falconer) was born in Scotland on 25 April 1915. Mahon expressed her happiness and gratitude for all the effort done on the day. “It’s a happy day. I’m very grateful that all my family and long-standing friends could make it to celebrate this special day with me. Some of my family came from Cape Town and Durban; while I received phone calls from as far off as South America,” she said.

Alice currently lives in the St. Michael’s Retirement Village in Weltevreden Park. She still enjoys playing bridge and watches a lot of sport on TV, especially golf. When asked to what she attributed her long life, Mahon answered, “I’ve always been physically and mentally active and I am grateful that God has blessed me in so many ways.”

Her son Kevin Mahon is thankful that his mother has reached such an impressive age while still enjoying good health. “We’ve been very blessed to have her with us on this day. She’s always been very active and plays bridge a lot. And I think keeping the body and mind active is very important and this really keeps her going,” he said.

Staff members at the St. Michael’s Retirement Village also attended the event and wished Mahon the very best on her special day.
