Long-troubling road finally getting fixed

It's all systems go for the resurfacing of a troubling road in Witpoortjie that has inspired many a Record story.

That’s right, the day has finally come that contractors are resurfacing McGrath Street, one of the main roads used in this little suburb.

The Record reported earlier this year that R25 million is being spent on fixing deteriorating roads in Region C, which included 14 roads in the Witpoortjie area alone.

The company KPG Surfacing and Civils CC was awarded a tender by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and the City of Johannesburg to work on the roads. Site agent Wayne Maher said that they started the job on 19 January and will continue in parts of Roodepoort and Florida until August.

This morning, Thursday 23 April, their contract workers could be seen blocking of the ‘bottom’ of McGrath Street, which connects to Nassau Street and starting their work there. The road will most likely be dealt with in parts, until they reach the circle in front of the Witpoortjie Shopping Centre.

Roads connecting to McGrath Street were already fixed in February.
