Roodepoort Primary: Its open, its closed, its open..?

Community not accepting MEC's findings.

In a drama that has now become a farce, the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education Panyaza Lesufi has announced earlier today that Roodepoort Primary is once again open.

The MEC took a decision this past Friday to close the school due to ongoing disruptions of teaching and learning at the school. “Acting out of the best interest of the pupils and ensuring that their right to receive education is in no way compromised, I made the decision to re-open the school. This follows a request from parents of the pupils at the school in a meeting yesterday,” said Lesufi.

The gates of the school were opened this morning and teachers and pupils were allowed in. The MEC has also taken a decision that the principal and the two deputy principals return to the school today.

The department has deployed officials to the school to monitor the situation, ensure there is stability and that teaching and learning continues without any disruptions.

Law enforcement agencies have also been deployed to the school to ensure that pupils, educators and the school property are protected.
