Another gang on the prowl in Witpoortjie?

A business owner, who due to security reasons do not want her name or the nature of her business known, suspects that she nearly fell prey to a gang operating in the Witpoortjie, Mindalore and Silverfields areas.

Last Wednesday at about 3.30pm a champagne coloured Audi A4 with four passengers arrived at her home in Haarlem Street from which she runs her business. She let the two men and two woman who pretended to be there to do business with her in but immediately felt uneasy. She instructed her husband on the sly to watch their every move.

She says they asked suspicious questions such as whether she is at home the whole day and remarked on the fact that there are televison sets in more than one room. When she asked them who referred them to her they said ‘Hashim’ but later in the conversation said ‘Mohammed’ referred them. The four suspects told her they would return the next day but never did.

She immediately send out a warning on all the social media platforms available to her and soon started getting messages back from people who had similar experiences with the same four people in the same vehicle. The allegedly target businesses in the area that is run from home and have already robbed an elderly woman who has a dog food business in Dromedaris Street as well as a crèche in another part of Witpoortjie. It is also believed the gang sometimes use a silver BMW and can possibly be connected to house break-ins as far as Silverfields.

When she reported the incident to the police they confirmed that the registration number on the Audi, NTF 076 GP, does not exist.

The public are advised to inform their domestic workers and children of the gang’s modus operandi and home business owners should be especially careful.
