No IDs or passports today

No IDs or passports will be processed in Roodepoort while the Department of Home Affairs are upgrading its systems.

At least half of its offices across the country has been successfully upgraded.

While offices are open today (13 April) they will not be able to process ID or passport documentation. It is one of 14 offices in the Johannesburg region, in which three other offices have been successfully upgraded already.

The upgraded systems allow for the offices to process details of disabled people without fingerprints as well as transferring its data online, Eyewitness News reported today.

The upgrades should be finalised tomorrow according to a press statement given by Director-General Mkuseli Apleni.

Unfortunately the Record could not confirm this with Roodepoort’s Home Affairs Office as their number (011 279 7300) appears not to exist. Office manager Pearl Poto has not yet responded to email communication.

At least 70 offices countrywide are ready to process even smart ID cards at current.

This includes:

• Johannesburg Regional Office (77 C/O Harrison and Plein Street)

• Soweto Regional Office (C/O Kumalo and Armitage Street, Orlando West)

• Thusang District Office (Shop 368, Maponya Mall, Old Potchefstroom Road, Extension 5)
