Suspects open fire on Metrobus

Driver seriously injured.

A bus driver is in a serious condition after he was shot on Ontdekkers Road in Newlands, according to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

Paramedics from ER24 were called to the scene shortly before 6am where they found the bus on the side of the road near the Mollie intersection. Upon assessment they found the driver of the bus, believed to be in his fifties, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Another person, believed to be a passenger on the bus, was found with a graze wound on his abdomen.

The driver of the bus explained that an unknown amount of suspects entered the bus as he stopped near the Mollie Road bus stop and opened fire into the bus. The bus had several passengers on board at the time. Fortunately no one else was injured in this incident.

The injured men were transported by ER24 and Johannesburg EMS to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The local police were contacted to attend the incident. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known.
