Alleged motorcycle thief chased down

The numbers of the motorcycle was tampered with.

A man, 36, riding a suspected stolen motorcycle was chased down by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Florida Police.

On Tuesday 10 March the officers were busy performing normal patrol duties when they attempted to stop a man on a motorcycle.

“He did not stop when he noticed them but accelerated,” Florida Police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomelo in a press statement said.

“A chase ensued and they managed to stop him in Minerva Street,” she said.

The police officers requested to conduct a search during which they realised thaat the chassis number and the ignition of the motorcycle had been tampered with. Further inspection lead them to find implements suspected to be used in vehicle breakings.

The suspect was arrested and detained for possession of a suspected stolen motorcycle and suspected vehicle breaking implements and subsequently appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, Dikolomelo said.
