School donates toward a worthy cause

RADIOKOP – The Dios Los Ninos school has recently started a charity project to assist children in need.

Pupils from Dios Los Ninos School have started an active community project entitled The Bacon Charity Project.

The project involves each pupil from the school contributing a minimum of R2 each week into the school’s plastic piggy bank, aptly called Bacon.

On the last day of school term, each of the teachers add R5 and donate one non-perishable food item toward the cause. The school then takes all the proceedings and donated food perishables to The Baby Moses Child Sanctuary in Helderkruin.

The Baby Moses Child Sanctuary is a charity organisation that provides a place of safety and security to abandoned children. The organisation has been around for 11 year and is run by Christo and Lanie de Klerk. They care for 90 children of various ages and grades.

Founder and co-owner of the sanctuary Lani de Klerk was thankful for Dios Los Ninos’ involvement. “I think it is a wonderful initiative that Dios Los Ninos has promoted. Instead of just dealing with this as a normal life orientation project, the school has actively identified how they could contribute toward lending a helping hand to the sanctuary. They have provided us with much-needed food supplies. And their financial contribution has also assisted us in keeping the sanctuary running,” she said.

Principal at the Dios Los Ninos School Leonie De Kock was extremely proud to have the school involved with this charity initiative. “Personally, I have been involved with the Baby Moses Child Sanctuary for about 11 years now, so they’re very dear to my heart. The sanctuary does a lot of good work with a huge number of children they have to care for. I know that when the school contributes, it’s really going toward the children at the sanctuary. We are very proud to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause,” she said.
