R10 bil for Lanseria to take-off

Premier's grand plans for West Rand.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura has recently announced a much welcomed injection into the economy of the West Rand.

This will come in the form of R10 billion that has been set aside to develop Lanseria Airport into Lanseria City over the next 15 years. This forms part of one of the three new economic corridors planned for the province. Up to now the private sector has already invested R500 million in developing the airport and is planning to invest a further R500 million in developing Lanseria City.

One of the largest advantages of this long term project according West Rand district municipality spokesperson Dennis Mangope, is the strides it will make in the attempt to eradicate unemployment. The province will also focus on small to medium enterprises and their cooperatives in order to grow the West Rand economy.

According to Makhura this investment and development will boost tourism in the province.
