[INFOGRAPHIC]: Two dead in mysterious N1 incident

Two people were killed in what authorities are calling a road rage incident on the N1 North just beneath the Main Reef Road bridge last night, Tuesday 17 March.

What seems to be a double shooting was followed by setting alight two vehicles on the road at around 7.55 pm, according to Maraisburg and Delarey (M&D) Community Policing.

They shared a video of the incident on their facebook page, calling it a “very traumatic incident”.

Two people of which one was a 34-year-old white male were killed in the incident. Reports, including that of the Our Neighbourhood Florida facebook page have stated that one vehicle caught alight and that the person inside the vehicle sadly passed away while a second person was shot in another vehicle.

However, according to tactical paramedic Anees Kara who is the treasurer of M&D Community Policing and who responded to the scene last night, there were bullet holes in both vehicles.

“One vehicle was a white Bantam bakkie in which a 34-year-old white male was found dead due to bullet wounds,” Kara told the Record.

“Four bullet holes could be seen in the windscreen of the bakkie.”

“The other vehicle that was set alight seems to be a Fiat 500 CC but was burnt so that one could not distinguish its colour.

“There were bullet holes, one right above the door handle of the vehicle and one in the arch of the door of the Fiat,” he said.

From his paramedic experience, Kara said that the bullet hole right above the door handle of the Fiat could be indicative of a chest or arm wound to the person inside. His body was recovered burnt beyond recognition after Joburg EMS extinguished the flames.

“There were many shells on the scene of what I think could be a 9mm pistol,” Kara said.
The incident occurred just outside of the Florida Police’s precinct and the case has been taken over by Orlando Police who were on scene.

Joburg EMS, Metro Police, ER24, Sanral Route Patrol, the Gauteng Flying Squad and the Florida and Orlando Police responded to the scene as well as members of M&D Community Policing.

In an interview with SABC Digital News last night, JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the radio control room received a call about the incident at around 9 pm.

“The incident is very bizarre, but will be investigated to understand exactly what had happened,” he said in the interview.

The Orlando Police are in need of people to come forward and provide further information to assist them in making arrests in this case.
