Elderly couple burgled

RUIMSIG – Family friend explains that couple only visits South Africa once every six months and then they get burgled

On 10 March at around 3.20 am in the morning, two men allegedly forced their way into an elderly couple’s home in Gelding Avenue.

Family friend of the couple Riaan Jacobs tells what exactly happened.

“The couple was awoken when their glass door was smashed by the intruders. They initially thought these intruders were on the roof so they stayed in their bedroom and locked the door after pressing the panic button.”

Honeydew Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Jacobs added that officers from Honeydew Police arrived moments later and discovered that the intruders escaped with a flat screen TV and an amplifier.

“They gained access to the property by digging a hole underneath the security fence and pushed the fence up with sticks, they later escaped through the same hole,” she said and confirmed that a case of housebreaking and theft was opened at the police station.

According to WO Jacobs, “No suspects have been arrested yet and we urge anyone with information to contact the investigating officer Constable Thokozani Kunene.”

“The couple is from the UK and they are only in South Africa every six months and then this happens to them,” WO Jacobs concluded.
