Disabled man allegedly not paid by company

STRUBEN'S VALLEY – Company says it has done everything it could for disabled man, Victor Machado.

Victor Machado, a man born with a defect on the left side of his body, was given the opportunity to work for The Box Man company in the area and was promised a small salary but allegedly, this never happened .

As he is confined to a wheelchair, Machado worked on the corner of Fredenharry and Hendrik Potgieter roads where he promoted new Box Man trailers that were available to rent to the public

A resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, explained that he was never compensated for his work.

In the initial interview, the managing director of Box Man, Alfred van Heerden said, “We will pay Machado a small salary and we will make him part of our profit share.”

The resident explained that she spoke to Van Heerden and asked him about Machado and if he was compensated for his work. “He [Van Heerden] explained that the council confiscated the trailer that was supposed to be rented out and that is the reason why he is not paying Victor.”

Van Heerden’s personal assistant Chavron Lewis said, “We have not rented out any trailers through Machado. He received money from The Boxman on 19 December 2014, even though no trailers were rented out.”

She added, “The general public made promises of supporting Victor and his mom, but it was empty promises and to date we have not received anything.”

“At this stage, the whole project has come to a total standstill and nothing is happening. This is not due to The Boxman not trying to assist Victor. In fact, we have tried everything in our power to assist Victor and his mother,” concluded Lewis.

No comment has been forthcoming from Machado.
