JRA urgent action required

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Councillor concerned that if no urgent action is taken, bridge will pose a safety hazard to motorists who use this road.

According to Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin, residents who travel on Without Road live in fear as the bridge on this road could collapse with any rain that may pour anytime from now. “Extensive damage will occur with the next downpour which could well result in further damage to our existing infrastructure in the locality,” explained Tonkin.

Councillor Mike Tonkin says residents live in fear as they feel this bridge will collapse with the next rain.

He said the major damage will be caused because of the blocked culverts on the Klein Jukskei River which, he says, will inevitably lead to damage of the bridges over this river and will result in millions of rands in damages to the infrastructure. I have reported these problems to the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and yet, so far, without response,” stated Tonkin.

The sink hole on JG Strydom and Cockspur remain unrepaired more than three weeks after it was reported.

Another problem pointed out by the councillor is that there in a sink hole in JG Strydom and Cockspur that awaits repairs from JRA. Tonkin said a call was logged more than three weeks ago. “This is an urgent matter because of the potential damage that can be inflicted on vehicles using this busy road and it is steadily deteriorating.”

JRA is still to comment on the matter.
