Police to hunt down SABC muggers

Police have vowed to find and arrest the men who robbed a television news crew from the SABC last night, according to their official facebook page.

“The armed robbers accosted the crew and robbed them of their valuables, including laptops and cellular phones, outside the Milpark Hospital. The robbery was recorded on camera and no injuries were reported,” a post to the page read.

The rest of the statement reads:

Minutes after the robbery, the crew spotted and approached a police member who was driving past after attending a meeting. The member, a Captain from Parkview Police Station, stopped to assist and ensure that the victims were safe. He drove around the area with one of the SABC staff members searching for the suspects, but to no avail. A case of robbery and theft has been opened.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba said police will do everything in their power to ensure that the suspects are brought to book. He added that the SAPS is pleased that nobody was injured.

“We are shocked at the brazen nature of this crime. The robbers attacked the crew while the cameraman was filming this incident,” said Lt General Mothiba.

General Mothiba appealed to anyone with information to come forward by phoning the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
