What was supposed to be a joyful reunion of friends turned into a nightmare this morning for Ruth Fynes, Willie Gehardi and their visitors from the United Kingdom.
Fynes and Gehardi picked up their friends at the airport last night not knowing what welcome they will receive. At approximately 7.30am Fynes heard activity at the front gate of their home in Barend Street. Thinking it was the garden services she opened the gate, only to be met by six robbers of whom three were armed.
The robbers rounded up the inhabitants of the house threatening to kill them and assaulting Gehardi. They fled with various valuables such as a television set, cell phones, tablets and an ID document.
Both Fynes and Gehardi praised the Krugersdorp police for their quick reaction time saying they were there within minutes and they are not sure how the police became aware of their ordeal.
