Alleged manhole cover thief arrested

A man caught with suspected stolen manhole covers was arrested in Polar Street this morning.

According to the West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch their patrollers were called by a resident reporting that a suspect male was travelling along Progress Road with a trolley.

“After searching the area they found him on Polar Street,” WSRNW in a press statement said.

The Roodepoort Police were summoned to arrest the man, 39, who was in possession of a steel meter box and three steel manhole covers, spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo confirmed.

“He was arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday (9 March),” Khumalo said.
