Clearwater Mall bomb scare defused

Residents are still warned to take precaution when moving in the direct vicinity of Clearwater Mall as well as on the busy roads surrounding it.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Karen Jacobs could not give further commentary as the incident was escalated to her superiors for a formal press briefing.

Thus far the extensive searches by the Saps K9 Dog Unit and the Bomb Disposal Squad have not delivered the locations of the four bombs allegedly planted there.

This follows a phone call made to the mall at around 9.20 am this morning by a man threatening that it will be detonated remotely should he not receive a R100 000 in ransom.

“He demanded a R100 000 after which payment he will release the locations of the bombs to us,” said provincial police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu.

“Our men did their very best searching the grounds for the possible locations of these bombs but delivered no further information on it.”

Mngomezulu said that the police is not ruling out the possibility of bombs on the premises. A final assessment of the various shops will be done before the scene is cleared for shoppers to go about their business normally.
