Mardi Gras comes to Florida

Mardi Gras in Florida Lake next month.

Dont miss out on the fun as the Mardi Gras Parade returns to the Florida Lake next month on 7 March.

The parade is the initiative of the ON Florida Community Forum.

They will join hands with the Florida Swimming Club, celebrating its 90th birthday and the Chinese Dragon Boat Club, celebrating the New Year.

In years gone by, the Florida Lake hosted the International Eisteddfod of South Africa where the opening ceremonies would attract more than 3000 music lovers to the Lake.

The organisers hope that the lake can recapture that lost magic with the hosting of the parade.

The day will start off with the Parade at 10am at the corner of 4th Avenue and Goldman street, proceeding along Goldman Street, left into Westlake street and ending at the Gauteng Dragon Boat Club at the lake an hour later.

The procession will be led by the Field Band Foundation and a Pipe Band. A number of floats representing some of the major stakeholders in the Greater Florida District will follow the marching bands.

Dragon Boat racing will be the main attraction at the lake right into the next day 8 March and shops such as Wimpy and Pick n Pay will provide food and refreshments. The Gauteng Dragon Boat Festival will also provide food.

Parking facilities have been arranged at Pick n Pay, behind Florida Library, outside Dorcas Aid Southern Africa and in Plaza road.
