Two men arrested for fake documents scandal

Two men will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court after being arrested for creating forged passports, South African Revenue Services (SARS) documents and asylum papers.

“We don’t know where it comes from but we do know and we can confirm that they were using computers with special headsets and special equipment to be able to manufacture fake passports, SARS documents and asylum papers which they were selling illegally. To the normal person it would seem like a real document, but to a trained individual, it was definitely fake and the suspects have been charged for fraud,” explains Police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar in a press statement.

The Johannesburg Metro police said, two men allegedly tried to forcibly gain entry into a house in Birch Acres, Ekurhuleni and they were arrested soon afterwards and that residents informed a Metro police officer that the two men were trying to push a gate of a house open in the area.

Minnaar also added that “the suspects were caught carrying a bag which contained various house breaking equipment.”

After being arrested, they were taken to the Norkem police station.

“At the station, it was discovered that the two were wanted for many other crimes, including shoplifting, theft and car hijacking,” said Minnaar.
