The gates of the electricity substation located in General Pienaar Avenue have been left open, leaving Witpoortjie residents vulnerable.
Their primary concerns are that the substation will be vandalised and that children who walk past the open gates might be curious and get shocked.
“Residents should call the department responsible which in this case is City Power. They can only do something about it if they are made aware of the problem. I can only step in if their complaints are not heeded,” said Ward 71 councillor Gert Niemand.
The Roodepoort City Power office could not be reached for comment.
