Two-year-old burns to death in shack fire

MULDERSDRIFT — Case of culpable homicide is opened after two-year-old burns to death.

Muldersdrift Lieutenant Colonel Kgaogelo Seabi has warned woman to practice caution when it comes to igniting fires in small shacks.

This comes after a 24-year-old woman was arrested for culpable homicide on 16 February at plot 04 Muldersdrift.

Warrant Officer Hitler Ngwenya said they received a complaint of arson at around 5.30am.

“When we arrived there, we noticed the shack on fire and a woman came running toward us and said that a two-year-old baby was still inside. After several efforts from everybody on the scene, who tried to gain access and extinguish the fire – unfortunately, our efforts were in vain.”

A case of culpable homicide has been opened and the woman was arrested.

“We call for all women in our areas to look after themselves and particularly children not to leave young children unattended,” concluded Ngwenya.
