Blood sweat and tears awarded in the long run

RUIMSIG — Pupils are celebrated for their efforts in and outside the classroom with annual prize giving ceremony.

RUIMSIG – Eagle House School held their prize-giving ceremony at the Ruimsig Athletic Stadium on Saturday 7 February.

Pupils from the school were awarded and celebrated for academic and leadership skills that they showed off during the 2014 academic year.

The mood was fairly comfortable and light hearted as parents, pupils and teachers sat together in the auditorium overlooking the lush green field.

Comedian, Joey Rasdien was guest speaker and spoke on the importance of celebrating all the diverse cultures in the country and had the audience in stiches with his metaphors.

“We are so quick to be defensive as South Africans. If something upsets you, first look at yourself first before you judge. South Africa is the best country in the world and we should all work toward being better people.”

Certificates and medals were awarded from the junior phase (Grade 4 to 7) to the senior (Grade 8 to 12). From sport awards to special awards that were given out for performing arts and music, everything and everyone was celebrated for their extensive efforts that certainly did not go unnoticed.

With an exciting curriculum, the extra mural activities awarded continued to evolve pupils well outside the confines of the classroom; in categories including: masterchef, drama, arts and crafts and soccer.

2014 Grade 12 pupil Nikita van der Merwe gave an inspiring valedictorian speech.

“I could not have achieved everything I have without the support and persistence of our teachers. You can only get where you want to be through hard work during your school years. We all have to work our hardest to get far in life, it is a real possibility that we can achieve,” she concluded.
