Eskom generators doing well for now

JOBURG – 'There is more demand, but for now our generators are working very well,' says Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe.

The system remains constrained but stable, says Eskom’s Khulu Phasiwe.

“There is more demand, but for now our generators are working very well today,” he said, adding that should anything unexpected happen they might go into load shedding.

On 15 January, Eskom, CEO Tshediso Matona, explained the different challenges currently being faced by the company. [https://northcliffmelvilletimes.co.za/190099/eskom-sheds-light-on-load-shedding/]

Eskom started implementing stage one load shedding on 9 January, due to high electricity demand and the unavailability of some of its generating units.

Stage one allows for up to 1 000MW of the national load to be shed, stage two for up to 2 000MW, and stage three for up to 4 000MW.

In February 900MW would be taken off the grid when one of the Koeberg nuclear power station’s units is scheduled to undergo maintenance.
