Take note of the new modus operandi

RANDPARK RIDGE – Criminals come with new tactics to trap residents.

Criminals seem to have come up with a new modus operandi when it comes to committing house robberies. According to Greg Pearce of Community Support Services, the alleged suspects are targeting homes that are up for sale. “They ring the intercom and ask to see the home owner or house as they are interested in buying. Once inside, they clean you out of your small valuables like cellphones, laptops, Ipads and jewellery,” explained Pearce. He said this is a new trend that they started noticing in the week ending 16 January where he said almost four homes were targeted. The alleged criminals are said to be driving a silver or gold Nissan X Trail. In all four reported incidents, the vehicle was occupied by four black females and one black male. Committee member for Riverwel Resident’s Association Neville Burnett urged residents to be extra vigilant. “Please do not be gullible and get caught out.”

Pearce further reported that the suspects are believed to also be operating in the Constantia Kloof area, as a few homes were recently targeted in the suburb. He said the suspects are still at large and said residents should not let any strangers into their homes whether male or female. Honeydew Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs is still to comment on the matter.
